Just finished it. I can come out of my internet-cocoon now, unafraid of spoilers.
I don't have much to say, other than that I feel really badly for kids who are still reading the series. Cripes.

Good point about the audience switch. It's been relatively seamless though, it's only really jarring if you read like the 2nd book then go straight to the 6th or whatever.
And no, no way he's evil. It's clearly a ruse!
